ProHort Trainee Program Announced
Interested in the Master Gardener training, but not volunteer hours? Become a ProHort Trainee!
Iowa State University Extension & Outreach now offers a Professional Horticulture Trainee certification. This is a non-volunteer, non-credit training offered in conjunction with the Master Gardener Core Training Course each fall.
The ProHort Training fee is $550 for the 40-hour core training course and a certificate upon completion. The volunteer time commitment and continuing education requirement to maintaining Master Gardener status are not required. Trainees may not use the "master gardener" title.

The bi-annual International Master Gardener Conference will be held at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs on Sept. 22-25. Co-hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, the conference theme "Horticultural Horizons in the Heartland" will be explored with 15 presentations on plants and animals native to the Midwest.
"If you want to learn more about the 4000 species of bees that call North America home and how gardeners can support thriving pollinator populations, this is the conference to attend." Heather Holm, author of Pollinators of Native Plants and landscape designer from Minneapolis, Minn. will present on "Native bees and their role as pollinators of native plants."
June registration is $385; the cost after July 1 is $440. There is also single-day registration available at the 3-day conference. All fee options include lunch and registration closes Aug. 31. The Mid-America Center is located at 1 Arena Way, Council Bluffs, Iowa.
