"Tree Stewards-Planting The Seeds In Iowa Communities"
Do you enjoy working as a volunteer? Do you have an interest in improving the tree resource in your community? If so, the Tree Steward Program may be what your looking for.
The Iowa Community Tree Steward Program was created to develop a network of highly motivated, well-trained volunteers to assist in the improvement and expansion of community tree resources in Iowa. The graduates of the program receive 24 hours of intensive training in community tree management, and then over the next two years they contribute a minimum of 24 volunteer hours focused on improving and expanding community tree resources in their community or region. In the program you will learn about: basic tree identification, species selection, tree planting, tree care and maintenance, pest management, inventory techniques, program planning, funding, and implementation.
The program is sponsored by the Iowa Urban and Community Forestry Council (IUCFC), Iowa State University Extension, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and Trees Forever. The program is coordinated and implemented by Iowa State University Extension.
This program is intended to serve citizen volunteers, Master Gardeners, community forestry and parks staff, tree care professionals, utility company representatives, county conservation board staffs, community administrators, and others interested.
