Identifying Plant Nutrient Deficiencies: Chloride

Chloride Deficiency

When plants are deficient in chloride, symptoms often include chlorotic (yellow) and necrotic (dead) spots on young leaves, often with a bronzed appearance, sharp boundaries between healthy/dead tissue, and overall wilting, especially on older foliage. Chloride deficiency is uncommon and can be easily confused with drought stress or root damage, as well as nitrogen deficiency, which also causes general yellowing, and potassium deficiency, which may lead to leaf scorch and poor water regulation. Because symptoms are nonspecific, get a soil or tissue testing to confirm chloride deficiency.
