Identifying Plant Nutrient Deficiencies: Manganese

Manganese Deficiency

When plants are deficient in manganese, symptoms usually appear on young leaves as interveinal chlorosis with a fine, netted or checkered pattern, with even the smallest veins remaining green, often followed by small necrotic spots on the leaf surface. As the deficiency worsens, plants may become stunted, and foliage may appear mottled or speckled. Manganese deficiency is commonly confused with iron deficiency, which also causes interveinal chlorosis on young leaves but lacks the fine green vein network and spotting, and with zinc deficiency, which can also produce chlorosis and reduced leaf size. Because visual symptoms overlap, get a soil or tissue test to confirm manganese deficiency
