Boron Deficiency
When plants are deficient in boron, symptoms usually appear on new growth and at growing points, including stunted or rosette growth, death or distortion of shoot tips, brittle or thickened leaves, and reduced flowering or poor fruit set. Stems and petioles may crack or become hollow in some crops, especially cole crops like broccoli and cauliflower. Boron deficiency can be confused with calcium deficiency, which also affects growing points and new leaves, or zinc deficiency, which can cause shortened internodes and distorted young foliage. Because visual symptoms overlap, get a soil or tissue test to confirm boron deficiency.
