All-America Selections (AAS) is an independent non-profit trialing organization established in 1932 and still going strong 92 years later! AAS trial sites and display gardens are spread across the US and Canada, including nine gardens in Iowa. Reiman Gardens is proud to be both a trial site for multiple categories and a display garden highlighting recent winners. Check out the AAS Website for trial and display sites, winners, blogs, and so much more!
It's finally that time of year! I'm not talking about all those upcoming holiday celebrations, of course. I'm talking about the announcement of the 2025 AAS Winners! Several winners were announced earlier this fall, bringing next years' winners list up to 15!
Petunia x hybrida 'Dekko™ Maxx™ Pink': A pretty new pink petunia with a vigorous spreading habit that won’t take over your entire bed, growing to a maximum spread of 36". 'Dekko Maxx Pink' stayed very low and had TONS of 1" blooms all season, even into late fall. 'Dekko Maxx Pink' grows from vegetative cuttings, so ask your local garden center to carry this for next spring.
Tagetes patula 'Mango Tango': We love our red and gold bicolor flowers here at Reiman Gardens and 'Mango Tango' French marigold is no exception. 'Mango Tango' grows up to 10" and spacing is set at 6", so you can plant a couple in small pots or a big swath of them at the front of a garden bed. This French marigold bloomed from early June through early October and probably would have gone through a light frost with ease.
Brassica oleracea 'Konstance': If we've ever talked vegetables, you know that I LOVE kohlrabi but I end up fighting my basset hound for every slice! 'Konstance' is a beautiful purple bulb that resists cracking to hold well in the field if you don't have a dog to share your harvest with. Great to grow in cooler seasons (either spring or fall), other judges reported that they had beautiful kohlrabi during both seasons, performing over industry standards. Give growing a kohlrabi a try; I think your ENTIRE household will like 'Konstance'.
