These AAS Winners are Great Flowers for the Garden

All-America Selections is an independent non-profit trialing organization established in 1932 and still going strong 92 years later! AAS trial sites and display gardens are spread across the US and Canada, including nine gardens in Iowa. Reiman Gardens is proud to be both a trial site for multiple categories and a display garden highlighting recent winners. Check out the All-America Selections website for trial and display sites, winners, blogs, and so much more!

Be sure to visit Reiman Gardens this summer to see what's in trials this year! You'll see new breeding work in tomatoes, zinnias, cosmos, and SO MUCH MORE! Make your own evaluations and see if your favorites are announced as winners for 2025!

What did you do over the HOT weekend? Did you go outside and get into your garden early before it got too hot? Or did you do a little garden planning for next summer? It's never too early to put a few AAS Winners on your list for next season! These winners were all recently announced, so they will be on display at Reiman Gardens next summer!

Zinnia marylandica 'Zydeco™ Fire': 'Zydeco™ Fire' brings the right kind of heat with no humidity! This zinnia is a double-bloom in burnt orange that will stand out anywhere you plant it, especially with improved powdery mildew tolerance. Judges praised ‘Zydeco™ Fire’ for providing a better show than comparisons all season long.

Tropaeolum minus 'Baby' series: To add to our last article about series winners, here's three new winners from the 'Baby' series of nasturtiums: 'Baby Gold', 'Baby Red', and 'Baby Yellow' to join 'Baby Rose'. This series of compact nasturtiums fits anywhere in your garden, either in ground or in containers. Did you know that both the leaves and flowers of nasturtiums are edible? I think the blooms taste a combination of apple and radish; plant a couple extra for your snacking garden. Also, I love when you can grow a beautiful garden AND support your favorite college team!

Dianthus interspecific 'Capitán™ Magnifica': 'Capitán™ Magnifica' is a new vegetative dianthus that brings a lot of great new features to the class. Judges noted that ‘Capitán™ Magnifica‘ bloomed through the heat of summer, encouraged by a quick shear of old blooms. This dianthus also sends up flower stems long enough to use as cut flowers! Another AAS Winner great for in-ground or container growing, you'll be charmed by this sweet bloom!
